Scottish Haulage Company
This company had been in business for many years. They had recently expanded and won a new, large contract. This meant taking on extra staff and vehicles. Suddenly the turnover from the new contract dramatically reduced but this transpired to be a seasonal occurrence that was not originally envisaged. This caused problems with immediate cashflow and the company got behind with PAYE and VAT payments and soon found themselves over £100,000 in arrears. They had tried to negotiate with HMRC themselves but found this very time consuming and stressful and they could not reach a satisfactory agreement as HMRC wanted the arrears paid back over 4 months and in the absence of this HMRC were threatening to issue winding up proceedings against the company.
After contacting us we visited the business and after in depth discussions we advised the business that we were confident we could firstly get HMRC to suspend any winding up action whilst we negotiated with them and to also achieve a payment plan spread over 12 months.
We were instructed to help them and following 2 months of HMRC debt negotiation (during which time all dealings with HMRC were taken away from the business so they could concentrate on the day to day running of their business) we achieved what we had set out to do and obtained agreement from HMRC that the arrears could be repaid over 12 months.
From the first contact with Phil at Business Advice Services we were impressed with his in depth experience of both business in general and also of HMRC issues. He explained a number of different options to us and what he thought he could achieve. The end result, and all of our dealings along the way, were exactly as we were told it would be. We received regular updates and were delighted with the advice and service from start to finish” – JS, Managing Director
